ARC Review of “One Night” by Summer Cooper – A story in “Find Me A Valentine” A box set

A story about a young woman who agrees to help out a friend so that she can make some extra money. She meets a young man who takes her breath away. They are from different worlds and neither one is looking for anything permanent, but fate has other ideas. A professional hockey player, son of a senator, and cocky, Aaron, who is on suspension from his hockey team agrees to go to a Valentine charity dinner in his father's place. He meets Jenn, who is a woman who works in fashion, and has agreed to help out her friend Becca, by serving drinks and wearing a dress that is to be auctioned off as a fund raiser. The dress she is to wear is not her taste, and she feels very out of place. They have an instant reaction to each other and want to find out how things will end up between them.
This was a good story, it was a short, quick read. The chemistry between Aaron and Jenn is quick and hot. The characters are likable and fun to read about. They each show their vulnerabilities at times and it makes them more natural.

MY REVIEW:

Wow, quite the story. Talk about angst. I was so angry with Frankie and John in the beginning of this story. A great second chance story, but wow, why did they have to go through so much to get there?

Francesca, Frankie, is a young girl who has been bullied by the popular girls at school since grade school. She decided that she would never be good enough for them, so she started being who she wanted to be. A nerd. She is into video games, and anime. She comes from a wealthy family, but that doesn’t change who she is. She is a down to earth regular girl who hangs out with Killian Thorne, a scholarship boy at her school and his friend John Grimsby.

John Grimsby, a boy who comes from a different world that Frankie, but he can’t help that he has feelings for her and wants to go out with her. He is a star on the football team at the swanky school they attend and the only reason he is there is due to a scholarship. His mom left him and his dad years ago and his dad is pretty much just a drunk.

John finally gets the nerve up to ask Frankie to the Ancients dance and she agrees. She’s not a dressy kind of girl, but when John goes to pick her up for the dance he can’t help but be thrilled that she is his date, she looks beautiful. Frankie is happy that John asked her out, but she is also a little worried. This is kind of like what happened to her in grade school when she decided to only keep her own company. The mean girls and boys of their school strike again and there is a huge misunderstanding between John and Frankie and they go ten years with bickering and trying to avoid each other. That is until their best friend Killian is getting married and they are the best-man and best- woman standing up for him.

This was a great story and I really enjoyed it. However, like I said I did get very angry with John and Frankie after their misunderstanding. They are both so stubborn, but it all worked out wonderfully in the end. I just purchased Mr. Ruin so that I can read Killian’s story as well. I give this story a 4.5 star review and look forward to more stories in the near future with this group that went to school together.

This is a hard question to answer. I have read so many books and have many favorites, but to say one is my all-time favorite, I would probably have to say The Scarlet Letter, by Nathaniel Hawthorne.

2. Are you currently binge watching anything? If so, what? 

No, I don’t watch much TV. I only watch one night a week.

3. If you had to pick a book boyfriend, who would it be?

Hmmm, this is a good question. I would probably have to say Derek Alexander, of One to Hold, by Tia Louise.

4. Who is your favorite author?

Hmmm, there are so many. I guess if I were going to choose the one author that I will one-click a book from it would be Sue Coletta.

5. What’s your favorite TV show and why?

This one is easy. My favorite TV show is NCIS. As to why, because I love the characters, and the chemistry they all have, and I enjoy the process of getting to the bottom of the crime and what brought it on.

Abel drops
his head on my shoulder with a sigh and places soft but wet kisses on my collarbone.
“The minute you turn eighteen, I’m picking you up, throwing you over my shoulder and driving you down to the nearest courthouse so you can say I do,” he rumbles, still kissing me, tattooing those words on my skin.
My hands bury themselves in his hair as my back arches toward him, craving the rough terrain of his chest against my soft, rounded breasts, shooting sparks all over.
“You haven’t even asked me n-nicely, yet,” I whimper, baring my throat to his exploring mouth. He hasn’t. It’s been over a year since he brought it up at the treehouse and I told him no. Since then, he likes to joke about it but he’s yet to ask me formally.
“I don’t have to. I already know the answer.”
“A little too cocky, aren’t you?”
“Oh yeah, that’s definitely what I am.” He chuckles, sucking in the skin of my neck, making me shiver and blush. Oops. Double entendre.
The way he’s tugging on my skin is translating into a melty tugging down below. “Abel, no. That’s gonna leave a mark.”
He growls and looks up. The brown of his eyes is completely gone, a drop of honey drowned by a black lake of desire. “One day I’m gonna kiss you in the front of the whole world and if they don’t like it then fuck them.”
I read the frustration in his tone, the suppressed anger, and it hurts my heart. No one should be made to hide their love. No one. It’s too pure, too beautiful to ever keep hidden. I caress his pulsing jaw. “Okay. Kiss me at our wedding, then. In front of the whole world.”
A slow smile spreads over his lips and I want to fill my mouth with it. “So, you saying yes?”
I shake my head at him and give him a smirk. “Maybe.”
He plants a hard kiss on my mouth. “Kidnapping you it is, then.”
“Oh my God, you’re crazy.” I laugh.
But he swallows it up with his mouth. He’s kissing me, really kissing me. Like, he’s lost all patience with me and he can’t be a good guy anymore. He needs to be bad. He needs to suck both my lips into his mouth and drink my flavor straight from the tap. He needs to bite into my flesh to get to it, dig his way inside the pores and fuse us together.
