MY REVIEW:

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️ 5 out of 5

He lost his sister and in getting revenge he found a new family and then he lost his “father”. Now he’s out for revenge again, what will he find this time around?

Mikolaj Wilk was struggling to keep food on the table for his sister, father and himself after a tragic accident his father had at work. Now he works at a deli and puts money aside so is twin sister can go to college. After another tragedy strikes the family Mikolaj is left to pick up the pieces again, but he wants revenge first. Little does he know that it can lead him to so much more than he expected.

Nessa Griffin is the youngest of the Griffin Irish Mafia family. She’s lived a sheltered life and has been treated as a princess her whole life. While she knows who and what her family is, she has never been involved in any of it like her older brother and sister are. She wants to dance for Lake City Ballet and finish college, she has no desire to get into the family business, but she’s also not blind to the danger that surrounds her daily. She just lives her life on her own terms and loves her family unconditionally.

I love Sophie Lark’s books, and her new series Brutal Birthright is no different. This story is filled with sexy men, danger, action, and wonderful characters. Nessa will be forced to find a strength that she had no idea she had and when her family sees the change in her they are surprised at the woman she is turning into. She will find so much more than strength though. She will find a different kind of love and a determination that has been there all the time, just buried. I give this story a 5-star review and recommend it to readers who enjoy stories of mafia families, danger around every corner, betrayal, and sexy men that find their hearts when they least expect it. Sophie Lark’s mafia men are ruthless, dark, and determined to stay on top, get more money and power and they aren’t afraid to step into the line of fire to protect the ones they love.

Review of Lean In (Royal Bastards MC: Pittsburgh, PA) by Deja Voss

Lean In

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4 out of 5

Lean is the VP of the Royal Bastards MC: Pittsburgh club, he’s the son of the president, and the owner/operator of the club owned strip clubs in PA. He has had a dark past and is trying to find his way in the club and in life.

Mani is a young woman that has been broken down, betrayed, lied to, and abused for years. Her only reason for living is her little sister and making sure that she is safe and taken care of. She doesn’t care what happens to her as long as it protects her sister.

This story is dark and ruthless. The MC wants to rid the city of the mafia family that partakes in human trafficking and when they show up at the mansion for a meeting, that they really don’t want to have, they find a young woman in a closet. This is the catalyst to a deadly, destructive path that will lead to the fall of a sex ring, and the truth getting out. I enjoyed the story, but the epilogue left me with questions. Now I want more because the end of the book left me hanging. I give this story a 4-star review. I’ve read a few of the Royal Bastards MC books, by other authors and have enjoyed them. I look forward to more of the RBMC books in the future and more of the Pittsburgh, PA club because now I have to know what’s going on.

Review of Daddy Wolf’s Little Seer: Silver Wolf Shifter Book 1 by B.E. Kelly @KLRamsey5

Gray

Gray won’t fail Kaiah. He won’t let history repeat itself. He can’t lose another family.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 out of 5

Declan “Gray” Bane is a mature wolf shifter, he was getting his driver’s license when Kaiah was born, and he’s already enjoyed having a family, until he lost them. He is fiercely attracted to Kaiah, but he won’t give in to that attraction because he doesn’t believe he deserves it. He’s afraid of losing another loved one. He has told his pack that she is off limits, but he’s still afraid to claim her completely.

Kaiah Nez is twenty -eight and has been married and divorced once already and her experience with men has shaded her perception towards men. Her ex was controlling and derogatory towards her and her confidence and self-esteem took a huge hit from him. Her experience around Gray though has only shown her that he is kind and a good man. She can’t help her attraction to him, and she knows that if she keeps pushing with her little outfits, she can pull him and change his mind.

Gray and Kaiah have been dancing around each other for a while now. They’re both beginning to give in to the other. Kaiah has agreed to stay with Gray while her sister Aylen and her husband, Rios are trying to stay ahead of the hunters. Aylen doesn’t want Kaiah alone and unprotected. Kaiah has no worries in that area, even when she thinks she’s on her own wandering around town she has a shadow. While Gray thinks he’s being covert, Kaiah’s abilities lets her know that she is being watched, but she knows that she is in no danger from her shadow, at least not in danger of death. Gray hates it when Kaiah gets into his mind and knows what he is thinking, but Kaiah can’t help herself.

I’ve loved Gray from the start in the Perdition stories and reading his story just made me love him even more. He’s gruff but he has a heart of gold. He’s kind, gentle, caring, and a fierce protector. He’s also still hurting from the loss of his first family and he’s still running from the same group that he was back then. Gray and Kaiah are perfect for each other. Kaiah’s sassiness shines when she is around Gray, and she seems to let her guard down enough to be her true self. Gray gives her that freedom. I read this book in one day and couldn’t put it down. I love the Perdition Pack and now we have new characters to get to know from this book. I look forward to more of the Silver Wolf Shifters and can’t wait for Nomad’s story. I also look forward to more of the Perdition stories. I give this book a 5-star review. If you like shifters, paranormal, MC, your characters always running from danger, or characters that are strong, protective, and fun to read, you will love this book.

I’m a stay at home mom that loves to read. Some of my favorite titles are Pride and Prejudice, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and Horatio Hornblower. I started writing when I was trying to come up with suggestions on ways I could help bring in some extra money. I came up with the idea that I could donate plasma because you could earn an extra $500/month. My husband responded with, “No. Find something else. Write a blog. Write a book.” I didn’t think I had anything to share on blog that a thousand other mothers hadn’t already thought of. I decided to take his challenge seriously and sat down to write my first book, Jack. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed writing. From there, the stories continued to flow and I haven’t been able to stop. I hope my readers enjoy my books as much as I enjoy writing them. Between reading, writing, and taking care of three small kids, my days are quite full.

MY REVIEW:

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 out of 5

This story tore me apart, shredded my heart and then put everything back together and healed me by the end. It was an emotional roller coaster.

Garrick Knight is a man that lives by his morals and that is ridding the world of criminals that hurt kids and women. He can take out a target like a cartel member, government official if they are a danger to society or a group of senators that are plotting to kill a large amount of people to gain political power. The targets won’t even see him coming until it’s too late, but this time he’s on a mission because this group of Senators messed with his wife and destroyed him in the process. He doesn’t see himself as a good man, but Kate, his wife is his light and with his light gone, his darkness will prevail, but will the family at Reed Security be able to bring him back in time and convince him that Kate is alive and still needs him?

This story was a roller coaster ride for me of anger, sadness, and despair for Knight and the Reed Security family. Knight is the member of the family that trains all of the new recruits to be stealthy, deadly, and dangerous, but when his family is broken his old life comes back to him and he won’t stop hunting until those that destroyed him are put down. His darkness takes over and he is a completely different man. I loved the story and I love the characters of Reed Security and when Knight was falling apart, I felt every bit of his anguish. There is a lot going on in this final story of Reed Security and I loved every bit of it. The crazy things that Maggie does, the family bickering, teasing, and shenanigans that are pulled. Craig and his connection to Alec and Florrie, and their part in this last story was great! These men and women love hard and work hard. They will go to any lengths to keep their loved ones safe and protected, as is proven with the panic room on the property. Throughout the story I was on edge wondering how things were going to turn out, but by the end of the story, I was laughing at the way this large family were with each other and I loved every bit of it. I loved chapters fifty-six, fifty-seven and fifty-eight, they were hilarious and show how this group of misfits truly are a family.

I give this story a 5-star review and while I am sad to see the series end, I am hoping for maybe a next generation series? There are a lot of kids in this family and some of them really deserve their own stories as well. Especially Caitlin and Vittoria. I highly recommend this book and this series to readers who enjoy stories of security groups, large families, sexy men and their crazy women, and the fierce love they have with each other.

Review of Redemption (Fragile Ties Book 3) by Jennifer Bene @jbeneauthor

Redemption

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4 out of 5

David and Lianna are in France and things are going alright. David is beginning to warm up to Lianna’s cousins, but he will never warm up to Jean-Luc and Jean-Luc’s warmth will only last so long with David. David has no idea at this point what Jean-Luc knows about how David and Lianna met.

The conclusion to the Fragile Ties Series has more danger and secrets being revealed. The Faure family is devastated and looking for revenge. Since Lianna left in a hurry and angry their wrath is turned towards her and David. They’ll need all the help they can get to prove their innocence and keep from being killed.

I liked this series. It is very dark and depraved, and the secrets that are being kept could destroy Lianna and the Faure family. David’s only goal is to protect Lianna no matter what. His sole purpose was to destroy Lianna and her family, now his sole purpose is to protect her and keep her safe and happy. Little did he know that she would turn his life upside down and change it on him. The characters are dark, dangerous, and loyal to those that they care about. The story is full of secrets, danger, and messed up families, but the outcome is two people finding their own paths in life and finding the family they never realized was there for them the whole time. I give this story a 4-star review and recommend it to readers of mafia, dark and stories rife with secrets.

Review of Pivot (Book one of the Jack Harper Trilogy) by L.C. Barlow @LCBarlowAuthor

Pivot

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4 out of 5

Jack is only seven years old when she learns that life can be gone in the blink of an eye. She is raised and trained how to kill in multiple ways. Only as she comes of age does she find that everything she has been taught is not as it seems, and she begins to question the life she has been trained for. When her curiosity gets the better of her, she finds that her life could be better, but she will have to find a way to save the one person that sees more in her.

This was an intriguing story of a young girl that finds her life to be dark and deadly, but she finds her light in the most unlikely place. When she begins to question everything that she knows and has been taught, her life could become void, but she’s found her true calling in life and that will mean that she has to betray the man that has raised her. She has to find a way to do it and stay alive though or everything she has learned and is working towards could be the end.

I enjoyed this story and although I don’t read a lot of paranormal or fantasy stories, it seems that the ones that I do read turn out to be entertaining, intriguing and a very good read, Pivot is no exception to this. I liked Jack’s character and the way that she comes into her true calling. She has to be sneaky and ruthless, but she has been trained well and the training she’s had will only help her to find the strength and will to do what is right. I give this story a 4-star review and look forward to reading more of the trilogy as well as more of L.C. Barlow’s work. I am new to L.C. Barlow’s work, but I always enjoy finding new to me authors and when they contact me themselves, it means so much more to me when I read their work and find it entertaining and enjoyable to read. I look forward to Perish coming out and reading it so that I can get more of Jack’s story.

Review of Midnight Wreckage (Kings of Vengeance MC Book 4) by Winter Travers @wintertravers @EJBookPromos

MW Tease 3 (1)

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4 out of 5

Queenie is left to raise her nephew, Gunner, but when she is shot, and he is taken the Kings of Vengeance will do whatever is necessary to help her find him and bring him home safe and sound. Queenie is a strong woman who after being shot several times and having surgery knows that she has to go out and look for Gunner to bring him back home.

Sledge is a member of the Kings of Vengeance MC and has been interested in Queenie since he first set eyes on her. He has stayed away so that he didn’t give her any pressure with the sudden need to raise her nephew after losing her sister. He wants to take care of her and when he brings her home from the hospital, he is determined to stay with her to make sure she is alright.

I really like the characters in this series. The men are tough, dangerous, loyal, and protective of those they care about. The women are strong willed, tough, and a little on the crazy side, especially when they have their Book Club. These women include others that they meet and find a connection to, which includes Queenie’s sister’s counselor and the bar tender at a bar near the rehab center that Duchess went to. These characters are great and fun to read. The women keep their men on their feet and eat their “feisty flakes”, this is what the men say when the women get sassy and mouthy with their men. I give this story a 4-star review and I look forward to more of the Kings of Vengeance MC. If you like MC, sexy men, and sassy women, you’ll love this book and the series.

Release and Review of The Russian Savage: Enemy of the Bratva (Krasnov Brothers Book 2) by Rie Warren @EJBookPromos @RieWrites #TuesdayBookBlog

Title: The Russian Savage: Enemy of the Bratva
Series: Krasnov Brothers #2
Author: Rie Warren
Genre: Mafia/Dark/Russian Romance
Release Date: August 3, 2020

I am her enemy.
And I’m going to make her mine.
She might never forgive me, but I don’t care.

Saving the daughter of an enemy was not my intention but, now that I have her, I intend to keep her. Nothing is going to stop me from using this mafia heiress as I see fit, not even her personal vendetta that pits her family against the Bratva.

Kidnapping the beautiful Italian princess is in my best interests even if it’s not good for her. Because I have wicked secrets of my own, which I intend to play out on her luscious body.

She will be my prized possession come hell, high water, or a vicious new war.

The Russian Savage is Arkady’s story and is book two in the Krasnov Brothers series. No cliffhangers. No cheating. Includes vivid, steamy scenes. Can be read as a standalone.

My heart beat a mile a minute, and I kept my eyes glued to the daunting man before quickly taking stock of my situation. Arkady had brought me to what appeared to be a well-maintained house close to the alley where I’d been accosted.

Glancing to my right, I noted the hallway we’d come down. Now I sat in the middle of a large midnight blue sofa with two leather club chairs angled across from me. A brick fireplace and tall windows dominated the room almost as much as Arkady’s foreboding presence did.

His gaze left me only to inspect the purse he’d stolen from me.

When I began to get up, he pointed in my direction. “Don’t move, Lucia.”

The stark coldness in his voice reflected in the iced-over blue of his eyes.

Fear froze in my veins, and I clamped my hands between my thighs in hopes of hiding my trembling fingers.

What if he killed me now?

Who would find me then?

My father would bury two children in the space of three months.

The gag made it difficult to breathe but, after another threatening look from Arkady, I didn’t dare remove it, not even though air staggered in and out of my lungs.

He made quick work of the contents of my handbag, emptying everything onto a side table adorned only by a trio of tall ivory candles in black enamel holders. After poking through my cosmetics bag and even feeling along every inch of the lining for hidden items, he scooped the small satchel back into my purse.

He hummed when he found my keys and the small pepper spray canister attached. He placed my keychain aside then looked through my feminine hygiene products and birth control pills, which made my cheeks flame brightly.

I almost looked away but, when he glanced at me and saw my embarrassment, I glared even harder.

Maiale!

I cursed a muffled noise when he retrieved my phone. Then he paced to me, and his hand shot out as fast as a whip.

I winced, recoiling from a blow that never came.

His face took on an unreadable expression before he gave two sharp tugs to the gag stuffed between my lips. The pocket square removed, I took a deep stuttering breath, and he raised the phone screen to my face.

He had the device unlocked in an instant from my facial ID.

Lunging up from the deep cushions, I tried to throw myself at him—shove him off-balance, do anything to escape—but he merely sat me back down with one hand centered on my chest.

“Those are my personal belongings!” Red hot anger laced my voice.

“Not anymore.” His face hardened into harsh angles, those snapping blue eyes of his even deeper in contrast to his dark hair.

Every motion he made was precise while pure chilling menace rolled off him in frigid waves.

The side of my face throbbed, my knee hurt, my pants were ripped, and I was thirsty and tired and running on pure adrenaline alone.

I was helpless to do anything to protect myself, and that was the worst blow of all.

He spent no more than a few minutes on my phone and must’ve gleaned whatever information he wanted because he removed the SIM card and smashed it beneath his shoe.

My heart kicked up its wild beating, and I felt like I’d start hyperventilating.

Next, he expertly found the tracker hidden within the phone’s case and crushed it just like he had the card. He discovered a second tracker sewed into the lining of my handbag, and I swore softly beneath my breath.

He sent the most sinister, most triumphant smile my way, and my hands grew clammy.

“Stand,” he ordered after returning the non-contraband items to my purse.

I rose to my feet, nails digging into my palms. I wanted nothing more than to lay a stinging slap across his arrogant face.

“Jewelry,” he said.

“You’re stealing my jewelry? You’re no better than those street thugs,” I spat out.

He said nothing more, holding his hand outstretched.

Knees quaking, I removed my diamond stud earrings, the slim gold chain around my neck, an antique opal ring left to me from my nonna, and the heavy bangle bracelet from my wrist.

He took all the items and examined those too. Finding them clean of bugs, he dropped those into my handbag, which he then tossed at me.

When he pivoted away, I rushed at him from behind.

I didn’t even make contact before he whirled around to capture me in an iron-like embrace. Snarling wildly, I pummeled him on his unyielding chest, but my hands made little impact on his hard musculature.

I’d never detested a man more than I did in that moment.

When I jerked my leg to knee him in the balls, he released me so fast I stumbled. I didn’t even get a chance to steady myself before he grasped me behind the legs and swiftly tipped me onto my back. I landed on the floor, scrabbling to get back up.

He simply reached down, heaved me back up, and pinned me against his body, once more demonstrating his overwhelming power.

His face darkened, restrained fury thinning his lips and, with one hand, he clasped my wrists behind my back.

The next thing I knew, he held the barrel of his gun against the bruised side of my face.

Breath left my mouth in a hiss as cold metal kissed the skin of my throbbing temple.

Arkady slid the barrel down and across my lips.

True terror seizing my insides, I clamped my mouth shut, and his eyes became deadly blue slits as he skimmed the gun beneath my chin.

Then I felt two hard things at the same time—the muzzle of the gun pressed beneath my chin to angle my face up and the rigid thickness of his cock nestled tightly against me.

“Are you scared of me yet, dragotsennaya printsessa.” Gruff hoarseness deepened his voice.

I was petrified and, yet, sudden intense so-wrong arousal tickled across my body to settle low in my belly.

“Yes,” I whispered.

“Good.”

I heard him holstering the sidearm then his hand was at my throat.

I became transfixed by the different kind of heat that entered his blue eyes. Smoldering heat. Male lust as he squeezed my neck, and my nipples traitorously pinged up within the cups of my bra.

Arkady’s head bent toward mine as his hand moved up my elongated neck.

Heat flashed. I thought he was going to kiss me. His mouth would be warm and firm, unlike the kiss of his gun. His hard cock pressed into my belly, and fluttery sensation swarmed lower to pool between my thighs.

His lips barely whispered across my cheek, and my breath hitched in my throat.

My head was spinning.

I had no idea what was going on.

His grip on my neck tightened then loosened then squeezed again, and his lips touched the shell of my ear.

I almost moaned before I swallowed the sound.

I was pressed wholly against this killer Russian who’d just held a gun to my head, and illicit lust spiraled out of control inside of me.

“I don’t need a gun to make you do what I want, Lucia.” His deep drugging voice made my toes curl.

MY REVIEW:

🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 5 out of 5

Wow! The oldest Krasnov brother is very dark and the deep.

Arkady Krasnov is the second in command of the Zolotov Bratva. He is loyal to Yuri and his brothers, both by blood and in the Bratva. When he happens upon a woman being accosted in an ally one night, he has no idea that his life is about to be turn upside down and sideways. He has no idea that the woman he has rescued was made for him and that he will feel her presence and absence soul deep.

Lucia Leone is the only daughter of the Italian Mafia Don. Although she is not treated as the Princess she should be. She is out for vengeance for the brutal death of her brother Bastiano Leone, who was killed by Kirill Krasnov. She has no idea who her brother really was. He was someone much different to her than he was in the Mafia world. She has no idea that the man who just saved her from two rival gangs that were fighting over her, is the man that will show her the care, love, and attention that she has been searching for since her mother died.

I loved this story. The Krasnov brothers are dangerous, sexy, and lethal. They are deadly when they are fighting to protect the ones they love and care about. This story was brutal in some ways, but it was very steamy and sexy. Arkady is not a man to cross in any situation and when he finds that he wants to protect Lucia he turns into a wild animal to protect her and keep her safe. I give this story 5-flaming stars and highly recommend it to readers that like Bratva, Mafia, plots with a tough guy that will fall to his knees for the right woman, and tough, sassy women that can keep their men on the edge constantly. The story is full of danger, action packed, and some very sexy scenes. I cannot wait for Sasha’s story. I do wish we had heard more about Valeria after her rescue, but perhaps in another book. Ms. Warren can write a great Mafia, Bratva book with all of the danger, tough guys, and strong, sassy women that will pull you in and keep you a prisoner until the end of the book

My Review:

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4 out of 5

These books leave me wanting more but also crushed. The subject of them is so hard and tragic, but they are done well, and the characters are great!

Amethyst Hatcher’s youth was tragic, but she has rebuilt her life and is now just moving through life. She thinks she’s living, but she is really just still surviving. She needs the rush of extreme sports to make her feel alive and when they start to feel dull and not giving her what she needs she finds something else that will give her that rush. When tragedy hits their town and Amethyst, as a fire fighter, has to deal with the aftermath of the fires that are being set she begins to realize, with the help of her sisters and Zeb, that her life is not what she thought it was. The devastation of the fires that are being set in the their town really hits Amethyst hard and when she is put in the position of working with her brother in-law and his partner to find the person setting the fires and causing all of the destruction, she sees a different side of her job and of her life.

Zeb Tuck knows about Amethyst’s past and her history. He finds her attractive but he’s afraid to ruin his partnership with Judah since he is also Amethyst’s brother in-law. He has his own rough history and the fires that are being set bring a lot of his past to the surface again. His whole family was taken from him at an early age and he has to rebuild his own life.

I really like these stories. Even with the hard topic of the plot and the tragedy that these characters go through, they are written so well, and the characters are great. I have liked all of the books so far and I think this one may be my favorite so far, because I love Amethyst and her strength. She puts on a great front for being tough and strong, but deep down she is just as vulnerable as her sisters were and now it’s their turn to show her that she can let the past be and live her life to the fullest and be happy. The characters are entertaining, strong, and able to move on in life with the right person beside them and helping them to find their true North in life. If you like stories with strong, beautiful women, the Broken Gem books are a great read. I give this story a 4-star review and would highly recommend them.

Apparently she’s a bit crazy.
Apparently he’s the shrink who will cure her.
Apparently they aren’t allowed to fall for each other at all…
Stacey Sinclair’s mother died in a gruesome car accident six years ago, and now everybody thinks she is finally losing it. Surely a few crazy actions on her part don’t justify her seeing a shrink for months on end?
For a psychologist, Dr Ivo Linder is too decent, too caring, and too handsome to get a glimpse of what really goes on in her head. Stacey’s unforeseen feelings towards him make her retaliate — she taunts him, never expecting to fall with him into forbidden lust.
As their attraction intensifies, the old adage stands: it doesn’t matter, as long as nobody finds out. But someone always finds out and when they do, will Stacey and Ivo risk everything to give their love a chance?

Once outside the bar, Ivo let go of her wrist. Stacey stepped away from him, eyes sparkling with wrath. She wrapped her arms around her body, closing up. The crowd on the inside had spilled out to the sidewalk, and if he didn’t move quickly, she could disappear in the ill-lit surroundings.
What a dump. The need to get her away from the seedy bar quadrupled.
He peeled his jacket off and held it out to her. “Come on, you’re cold.” What the heck was she thinking, wearing a strapless top and a cock-tease mini-skirt in the heart of the Cape winter?
Stacey shrugged. “I’m good.”
In my opinion, you’ve never been worse. He stared at her, but she met his gaze head-on. “Where’s your car?”
“Not here.” She looked as if she wouldn’t answer him, but capitulated. “I took an Uber here.”
And was she going to take a taxi home? Or hitch a ride with her hook-up, spend the night with some dick, only to flounder home at some point tomorrow morning? Hung over, humped by some stranger, and then attempt her exam? No wonder she kept on flunking. He tried to keep a straight face, but in this environment, with her here, barely dressed, every control centre in his brain was having a breakdown. “I’ll take you home.”
At this, she laughed. “Dr Linder, I don’t think that’s a good idea.”
“And why’s that?”
She was spelling it out for him, all right. But he could be bloody stubborn and thick-headed too. “My type…you’re so not ready for me.” She blinked at him, flirting with her eyelashes.
Every tendon in his body tightened, every muscle pulled towards his centre where his dick rose without invitation. Who mentioned ready?
He dropped his gaze, only to see chills sprouting on her arms and over her exposed chest; her fingers folded over her arms, turning white because of the cold.
He swallowed, unable to respond verbally without melting into her and holding her close, mouth against mouth, lips teasing. With one step, he closed the gap between them and dropped his jacket over her shoulders.
She shuddered at the gentle gesture. “I don’t need you, Doctor. And you don’t need me blazing your life into the ground.”
He was in her face now, their bodies sinfully close, his hands still on his jacket but resting on her shoulders. “I’m exactly what you need.”
She chuckled. “What about never having sex with me? Anywhere?”
“Stacey,” he sighed, resisting to urge to drop his forehead to hers. “I’m taking you home.”
“And then?”
His control slipped. The day was too long. The past three hours too intense. “Then, over the next few weeks, I’m going to take a bottle of paint stripper and brush you down. Layer by layer, until we find the real you and you stop pretending. So, cut it out.” The words came out in a way he should never talk to a patient. Being human sometimes interferes with the job.

MY REVIEW

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4 out of 5

Two lives connected through circumstance and by tragic pasts.

Stacey Sinclair needed to find a way to get through the final semester of college and graduate with her Accounting degree. The only trouble is that her past haunts her and only two people know what it is that haunts her, but they don’t know everything. Stacey finally told her brother and her best friend, Mila part of what happened to her six ago and what has caused her to blow off her studies and exams. Now she has to face the consequences of said blow off by meeting with the Dean of her college to find out if she would be dismissed or if she can continue on with her studies. She’s lucky that Dean Finch is giving her one more chance, but there will be caveats to her finishing her degree and one of them is to see a counselor twice a week for the rest of the semester or until said counselor signs her off. Her goal is to get signed off as soon as possible, but she isn’t prepared for the counselor that she sees at all.

Dr. Ivo Linder has lived through his own version of tragedy and is now on the other side of the depression, substance abuse, and anger. He volunteered to help out in the counseling center on campus when an email went out looking for people to help due to a shortage of counselors. He has his spare time taken up with various volunteer project, some that he created on his own, to help others in need and in danger to themselves. He is so busy that he has no time for a personal life, and he is fine with that, until Stacey happens in his office, then his whole world gets turned upside down.

This story is rife with tragedy, psychological and emotional turmoil and great characters. With such tragic happenings and the aftermath of those tragedies, the story is written very well, and could be any number of people we meet on the street. I enjoyed the story and had my emotions pulled one direction to the next. Stacey’s story is so heart-wrenching and the way she dealt with her emotions, fear and feelings seems pretty normal with what she has gone through and what she was dealing with. She needed to share those with someone though so that she could heal and Professor Finch made her do that. I give this story and 4-star review and recommend it to readers that are looking for an emotional read, a story of two people finding their path forward after tragedy, or a story of two people who should not get involved finding their true happiness with each other.
