Title: Shattered

Author: Bry Ann

Genre: Mystery, Romantic Suspense, Psychological Thriller

Release Date: October 19, 2018

Blurb:

Sometimes, when I really think about it, I can almost feel the way the breeze felt against my skin that day. How it washed over me, cooling my heated skin.

I remember counting the minutes it took to get to my boyfriend’s house. Twenty-two, but it took twenty-three that day. Maybe the extra minute was a warning.

One I didn’t heed, of course.

I wanted love. It’s all I wanted. I would have done anything for it.
It made me an easy victim.

Tell me I’m pretty here, hug me there and I was a puppet on his string. He pulled and pulled until he asked me to do the one thing I absolutely could not do.

It broke me to tell him no. Tore me up. I went over to his house that day to try and find a way to make it up to him. To fix what I broke.

Minute nineteen.

Cool breeze. Sunshine. Hope for love, fear I ruined my chance at it by being disobedient.

Minute twenty.

Black. One minute was all it took for Sage Briar-Rose to cease to exist.

To shatter her.

This is the story of how I lost myself. The story of how my naive search for love left me shattered.

MY 5 STAR REVIEW:
This book shattered me. It was heart wrenching and awesome. It made me cry, it made me cringe, and it made me angry, but I loved it. For a story that is about a very difficult subject, it was written so well. It pulled at my heartstrings in so many places and I related to Sage in some situations. I felt her want for any sign of love and to feel like she was worth it and wanted by someone. Everyone needs to feel like they are wanted or needed in life to feel like they matter.
I love that Nix is such a gentle soul and shows Sage the kindness she needs to feel safe. Nix is not a man who shows his gentleness or kindness to everyone, but he is a man with a good heart. He’s just been beat down himself and knows that in order to survive and keep anyone that matters to him safe, he has to abide by his father’s demands.
I read the Roses & Thorns series and loved the characters in that series. When we hear about Sage in that series, it’s hard to believe that she is a woman who is strong and sassy, but this book really shows who Sage is and I love her just as much as I do the women in the Roses & Thorns series. I hope to eventually read a story where Sage meets those women in person and her real strength shines. She is strong, funny, and sassy, and most of all, she is a survivor. She cares fiercely for the women she meets in Shattered and proves that she will do whatever she can to help them. For a girl who never felt love, she loves fiercely and whole hearted.
Thank you, Bry Ann, for writing this book and sharing Sage with us. I cannot wait for Nix’s story. I give this story a 5 star review and highly recommend it to anyone who likes a story of survival, strength, and determination. Be warned though, this book is dark and does have triggers. I can’t wait for Nix’s story.

REVIEW: Love Me Goodbye, by Meg Buchanan @MegBuchanan80 @books_n_all

A story of a woman who needs a knight in shinning armor, and man who wants to feel needed and loved. Can these two find a path together and have both of their wants and needs work?

Adam is a keyboard player in a band getting ready to go on a three month tour and finds himself drinking alone in a bar instead of being at his flat with his band mates and his roommate, who he believes he’s in love with. He really only wants to feel like he is needed and loved and his life might get on track. He’s a man who stays in the shadows of his band mates, but he’s a really nice guy that tries to help anyone that needs it.

Genevieve, a woman who has finally decided it’s time to fly solo and walks into the same bar that Adam is sitting in. She decides that she is going to try to pick him up for one night so that she has somewhere to go to get some sleep before she tries to go back home to her family in Uruguay.

These two will get a few days to get to know each other and they have a few adventures in the mean time. When it comes time to go their separate ways they’ll find that emotions have gotten in the way.

I liked this story and found the characters to be likable. I have not read the previous books in the series, but I found this story to be lacking something. I’m not sure what, but it didn’t grab me and pull me in. I give this story a 3 star review and recommend it to anyone who is looking for a short love story to read.

BOOK REVIEW: The Port Elspeth Jewelry Making Club, by Holly Tierney-Bedord @HollyTierney

A book with those characters you like or love and the dreaded neighbors you absolutely hate.

I was contacted by Holly Tierney-Bedord to read her book and I am glad that I agreed to do it. At first, I wasn’t sure I was going to like this story, but once I got into the meat of it, I loved it. The first part was a look into some tough information and the introduction of Vivienne really had me wondering. However, the characters are so well rounded and there are so many that you can really like some and then absolutely hate a few. I found that when I was reading about a few of them I was cringing and thinking to myself, “Wow, really??” “Did they really just say that?”

Candice is a warm hearted young woman who has just moved to Port Elspeth because her husband has a new job and they are looking for a new start. Unfortunately, she doesn’t know anyone and has a lot of time on her hands. She decides to start a jewelry making club to get to know a few people and acquaint herself with her new little town. She is in for quite a surprise though when she holds her first meeting at her house. Her husband, Dave, is a man who has to climb the societal ladder and be known for who he is and what he has. This can cause so many problems if both spouses are not on the same page. Audra, an elementary art school teacher who is looking for something to do outside of teaching and sitting at home alone. She’ll become an intricate character in this story and I love her naiveté and her determination in the end. Margo, the town outcast and her mother Pearl are two middle class women who don’t care about the high societal women or their circle. They live their own lives and are happy with who they are. They are women who are honest and true to themselves and their lives. Vivienne, a woman who has so many dreams of being in high society and having a lot of friends in the upper circles. She has a fall from grace and wants to try to get back up where she once was. However, her snobbish attitude only turns the women of the club off. Olivia, Vivienne’s teenage daughter who just wants to be herself and wants to have her mother be nice to her. She holds no illusions about how her mother feels about her and she looks for any reason to be away from her.

There seems to be a lot going on in this story, but in reality, there are a lot of characters involved in the story and they keep you moving along in the book and wondering where they will end up next. The twists in this story are great and they kept the pages turning for me. There was only one character that I wish there had been more on and that was Sandra, Audra’s co-worker. There were some unanswered questions for me about her and some of the things she said to Audra.

I am so glad that I decided to read this book and enjoy it. I give this book a 4 star review and highly recommend it. If you are looking for an interesting read for a book club or just for entertainment, I would suggest that you pick up this book. Thank you for contacting me, Ms. Tierney-Bedord.

REVIEW OF: REDNECK’S REVENGE, BY JOAN LIVINGSTON @RARARESOURCES @JOANLIVINGSTON

This was the first book I read in this series and I am glad that I read it. It was a book of twists, suspense, and small town gossip. Isabel and her mother work well together when trying to figure out a case. Isabel bounces the information and and ideas off her mother and together they come up with ideas of how to proceed.

An investigative story with several people as the killer, but trying to figure out who the real killer is can cause Isabel to lose her life. There are several reasons for the murder, but no one will guess the real reason because Chet was known as a miserable, poker cheating man. His own son was on the list of could be killers. Isabel has to look into everyone on the list and she has to read between the lines of what they are telling her. Some of the information she attains could be hazardous to her life.

I really enjoyed reading this book and found myself being drawn into Isabels life. I was rooting for Jack and mentally telling her to never mind Dave. After reading this book, I want to go back and read the first book in the Isabel Long Mystery series. I hope to read more in the future in this series as well. The women in this story are no nonsense women who can handle themselves and are not afraid of work or danger. I give this book a 4.5 star review and recommend it to anyone who likes crime stories and mysteries. I look forward to more in this series.

Review of “Wings of a Flying Tiger”, by Iris Yang @IrisYang86351

“World War Two. Japanese occupied China. One cousin’s courage, another’s determination to help a wounded American Pilot”. On the front cover.

Ms. Yang brought this book to my attention and I am glad that she did. I do not read a lot of historical books, but this story was very informative, interesting, and heartbreaking. The turmoil and tribulations that all of these characters went through were heart wrenching and life changing.

Danny Hardy, an American volunteer pilot is in China as a Flying Tiger Pilot who went to China to help them defend their country during the occupation of Japan. While flying a mission with his wingman and childhood best friend, Jack, they both take damaging fire to their planes. Jack has to eject from the plane and is vulnerable to the Japanese fighter pilots. He is shot before he can get to the ground and get under cover. Danny witnesses this and finds a new resolve to chase the Japanese pilots and get his revenge for Jack’s death. In his fight against the Japanese pilots, his plane is damaged and he has to eject as well.

Jasmine Bai, a young Chinese woman who lives with her Aunt, Uncle, and younger cousin, while attending college is determined to get to her parents and bring them to Chungking out of the danger zone. Jasmine will go through so much during her journey and she will prove her strength and determination. Jasmine’s older cousin, Birch is a fighter pilot in the Air Force and her uncle is a Colonel in the Air Force.

I really enjoyed this story, although there some pages where I cringed while reading and the whole time I was cheering for Jasmine, Daisy, Jasmine’s younger cousin, and others to fight their hardest and save their homeland and their families. The strength of the characters in this story really pulled me into their lives and kept the pages turning. These characters were very likable and enjoyable to read. I give this story a 5 star review and now I am looking forward to the second book, Will of a Tiger. Thank you Ms. Yang for contacting me and bringing your book to my attention. I really liked the characters and the story.

REVIEW: Kaznachei’s Pain, by V. F. Mason @LWoodsPR @Authour_VFMason

Kaz_Teaser7

This was a great story. It was heart wrenching at times as well as humorous, touching, and a love story of two people who in most cases would never find themselves together. Almost considered a forbidden love. The twists in this story kept me turning the pages and they kept pulling into the story. The men in the Bratva were men who had to overcome a lot to survive and make a life for themselves. Even though they had some situations that made them question the loyalty of some others, they still stayed true to their friendship and stood behind each other when they needed to. There were a few times where Kaznachei made his best friends question him and his loyalty, but they never turned their backs on them.

I loved the camaraderie these men had and their loyalty to each other even if their loyalty to the brotherhood may have been doubtful sometimes. The pain that Yuri has overcome a lot in his life and he believes that his heart will never be open to anyone and that he has nothing to give to a woman, but when he finds Melissa he will learn that his past heartbreak taught him so much more than he realizes.

I love the ending and am looking forward to the second generation. I really want to know what he told them…although because of Yuri’s reaction, I think I know what it is. I give this story a 5 star review and really hope there are more to come soon.

My Review:

A story of suspense and intrigue. The Jones sisters are brought in to help their friend Francine figure out if her new friend is really involved with the pharmaceutical corruption that she has stumbled across. After Francine’s husband dies in a tragic car accident, and she has lost her seat in the British Parliament, she decides she needs to get away from the sympathetic looks and phone calls. She decides to go on a vacation to the Caribbean and meets Anton, a self-made business man from St. Petersburg.

I really enjoyed reading this story and getting to know the women who weren’t afraid to stick their noses into places that some men wouldn’t even venture. They are smart, sneaky, and strong women. They stand up for their friends and won’t rest until they have the facts straight and their friends are safe. These women weren’t afraid to trek across Europe to find the truth or to help out a friend at the drop of a hat.

This was the first story I’ve read in the Suzanne Jones books and I enjoyed it. I would like to go back and read the other two prior to this one. The Jones sisters seem to live a life on the edge at times. I give this story a 4.5 star review and recommend it to anyone who likes suspense and intrigue stories.

REVIEW: Angel’s Halo, by Terri Anne Browning @AuthorTERRIANNE

Angel_s Halo MC Series Sale

I signed up to be a part of the Promotional Events for Angel’s Halo: Avenged, and I read some of the blurbs of the books and found that I had Angel’s Halo, the first book in the series, so I read it. Once I started reading, I couldn’t put them down, I purchased all of the books in the series, 1 – 7. I loved this series and the men and women in it. I was so drawn into their lives that I hated for the series to end. The stories were funny at times, tore my heart out in some, and showed characters that were strong, loving, and loyal. They were a family that had each others backs and wouldn’t let anyone get in the way of their MC or hurt anyone they cared about.

Once I finished this series, I noticed that there was a branch off to another series, so I purchased it, and I am looking for a break in my review schedule to read it. I am really looking forward to reading it and hope there will be more in the MC and Mafia world for these characters.

I give the Angel’s Halo series a 5 star review (all 7 books) and highly recommend it for a read. It is well written and really kept me interested. I hated to find that I had gotten to the 7th book.

MY REVIEW:

WOW! This story was very well done. I read Over Easy, and was very glad that I already had Over Hard already because the cliff hanger at the end of Over Easy was a jaw dropper for me and I had to see what was going to happen. The suspense and the twists in Over Hard, were page turning and on fire. I loved the rest of this story and the intrigue that it hinted to about Harper’s neighbor left me wanting more.

Jack ends up in danger over Harper, but his only thought is keeping Harper safe and away from the crazy man that surprised him and is waiting for Harper to show up. Luckily, Harper’s neighbor intercepted the text and will show us a secret she’s been keeping to herself.

I really liked this series and hope that there is more about these characters. I give this story a 4.5 star review and highly recommend it to readers.

EXCERPT

“I was here a couple of years ago, but only for a day or two,” Anne told Zac, looking away. She had booked a room out of Oak Creek both times she’d dared come back. The thought of staying at The Mayor’s Inn had been too painful. She couldn’t even look at that hotel without feeling sick to her stomach.

And she’d avoided everyone—particularly Zac—as much as possible. Just in case his words about not coming back were still true. She tried to swallow the panic that threatened to overwhelm her. Maybe he still felt that way now, even though he hadn’t said anything at the hospital.

“There.” He pointed at her. “That look that just came into your eyes. I saw it at the hospital. It’s like you’re afraid of me, Annie.” He took a step closer and she instinctively one back. One of his eyebrows shot up, letting her know she’d proved his point. “Do you think I’m going to hurt you?”

“No.” Not physically. She’d never worried that he’d hurt her that way, despite having five inches and probably fifty pounds—all muscle—on her.

But he was right. She couldn’t continue living in Oak Creek with them ignoring everything that had happened that night. What had been said. What had been done. Maybe she would’ve tried to, and to avoid Zac forever, if he hadn’t ended up in her ER.

But the truth was, there weren’t enough bushes in this town for her to jump into. She was going to run into Zac. A lot.

Sometimes all you could do was face the past.

She pulled a breath in. “I’m not scared of you. I mean, I know you would never hurt me physically. For crying out loud, you wrecked your motorcycle rather than hit a dog.” She’d meant for her laugh to seem breezy, but it just sounded stilted. “But yeah, I mean, we can’t pretend like that night never happened. The stuff we did. Stuff you…we said.”

His eyes narrowed. “That night we spent together after Becky died.”

“Yeah. That night.” As if they’d had another. “The bottom line is, I can’t leave here, Zac. No matter what you said then, or even if you feel the same way now.”

He shook his head, brows furrowing. “I don’t expect you to leave. You’re obviously a respected doctor, more than competent. Why would you think I wanted you to leave?”

Some of the tension she’d been carrying since his arrival in the ER began to ease. He was right. Something said in grief and anger six years ago didn’t necessarily hold true all this time later. She was silly for thinking it did. “Okay, well, it’s good to know you don’t feel the same as you did back then.”

He took a single predatory step closer, and she tensed again. “I said something that night to make you think you needed to leave?”

She stared at him, her mouth flopping open like some sort of fish. “You don’t remember what you said?”

Those words would be engrained in her memory forever.

Get out and don’t come back.

He rubbed his forehead. “That whole night is fuzzy for me.”

I can’t even bear to look at you. You just betrayed the only person in this town who ever wanted you here.

Tossing her naked into the hallway before flinging her clothes at her.

“What do you remember?” She forced the words past a throat that seemed to have dried up.

His hand moved to the back of his neck. “Honestly, not much at all. It’s sort of a blur.”

She retreated a step from him again. That night had been the most important night of her life. The best. The worst. It had changed the very fabric of her being.

And it was sort of a blur for him.

My Review:

A second chance at love with a woman that he tried very hard to stay away from and forget about. Zac will do anything to make Anne’s return to Oak Creek comfortable for her. He may not remember what happened the last time they saw each other, but he was mad at himself and lashed out at her then. Now he wants to protect her and care for her.

This story has some twists and turns in it and it was a great story. I love the strength that Zac brought out in Anne and how she was able to learn so quickly when watching Zac and the others at Linear Tactical training sessions. Her strength came from within and her childhood, but she needed Zac to tell her that she was strong for her to believe it and bring it out. I loved this book and cannot wait for the rest of the books in the series to come out.

I give this story a 5 star review and look forward to more of the Linear Tactical men.
