Review: The Protector: Mac, by Lisa B. Kamps @LBKamps

A story of suspense, love, and strong men who have scars inside and out.

Gordon “Mac” MacGregor is ex-military and is now a partner in Cover Six Security. He and some of his buddies he served with opened a security company after he’s forced to leave his position in the military after a disappointing defeat in court against a company that supplied defective military armor. He has scars on his body from war, and they are not only skin deep. He battles with himself from the scars on the inside. After meeting TR, a woman who sees beyond his skin, he finds that his life will change, and he may be able to open his heart.

TR, Tabitha, a reporter who has been having a streak of bad luck lately. She thinks that the things that are happening to her are just accidents or wrong place at the wrong time. However, Mac doesn’t believe that. He thinks that her life is in danger and he will do anything to protect her and keep her safe, even give his own life to do it. One story that TR has been working on has put her life in danger and she has no idea of how much danger she is in. Good thing that Mac was there to save her more than once.

One man who is playing a dangerous game between to gain power has decided that Mac is his last link to gain the power he craves. He’s deranged and thinks that he is better and smarter than Mac and that he can take him down single handedly.

I really liked this story. The pages turned very quickly in this book and I hated for the story to end. The men of Cover Six Security are lethal, protective, and very alpha. Mac is a man who follows his gut feelings and very rarely has it failed him. When he didn’t listen to his gut was when trouble and destruction hit. Mac and TR are a great couple and I loved reading their story.

I hated for the book to end. The writing of this book was great, it kept my interest throughout the whole story, and I wanted more at the end. I loved the chemistry of the characters, both the men of the team as well as TR’s reaction to the men of the Security company. I look forward to more of the Cover Six Security men’s stories. I give this story a 4.5-star review and highly recommend it to readers who like military men, suspense, and stories of men who are taken to their knees by the woman who will hold their heart.

Review of: Covet, by Ella James @GiveMeBooksPR and @author_ellaj

A story of tragedy, love, longing, and twists that you won’t see coming.

I really liked this story and the writing was done in a way that kept me pushing through the book to find out what happened in the past, what was going to happen, and how these two were going to live their Happily Ever After.

Declan, is a young man who has been through enough tragedy to last anyone’s lifetime. His tragedy led to things in his life that drew him to substances to help him find ways to cope with life and his demons. His family has been funding Tristan Island for many years and he feels that if he can get away from the temptations in Boston, he can clean himself up. Although, there are dark thoughts that are plaguing him as well.

Finely, a young woman who has been through her fair share of tragedy as well. Both of her parents are gone, and she’s raised by her grandmother on the tiny Island of Tristan, the only way to get to the Island was by boat. No large boats could dock on the island though, they had to anchor away from shore and small skiffs would bring people back and forth.

These two are drawn to each other because of their childhood. They both have secrets and neither one is sure of their feelings for each other. This story has a few twists and is written in a way that you think you know what’s happening or going to happen, but then you are surprised by what really happens. The ending of the book, from around chapter 44 on, I was so surprised by the twists of the story.

I had a hard time starting this book because it is so full of information and story that it was almost too much to take in, but when I got into it, I hated to put it down. I give this story a 4-star review and recommend it to readers who like to read love stories with suspense and twists that will keep you guessing until the end of the book. Besides, who wouldn’t love the cover of this book?

Review of: Brothers in Arms: Kings of Mayhem #2 by Penny Dee @GiveMeBooksPR and @AuthorPennyDee #TuesdayBookBlog

Another great story. I loved this book as much as I did the first one. The search for Isaac’s killer is leading nowhere and Cade is afraid of losing more than his mind over trying to find out who killed his cousin.

The Kings of Mayhem are going through a tough time. The death of their members and family is causing so much stress in the club and the MC has no idea who is picking them off.

This story drew me in from the beginning because of where the first book left off. I felt like I was part of the story because I grew to love Cade and Indy while reading The Kings of Mayhem, Book one. They have a strong connection and even with danger lurking and the fear of who may be next, these two grow more connected and stronger. Splitting up and sending Indy away seems like a good idea, but all that kept going through my mind was, even if she’s not near you, she is still in danger because your love is so strong.

I loved this book and really look forward to more of the Kings of Mayhem MC books. I hope there are more to come with stories for other characters. I give this story a 5-star review and highly recommend it to MC lovers who like suspense and second chances as well.

Review of Depraved: The Devil’s Duet, Book one, by Eva Charles @GiveMeBooksPR and @evacharles37

A new writing direction for Eva Charles’ writing career. I haven’t read her books in The New American Royals, and this is the first book I’ve read by her, but I really enjoyed the story and was devastated when the book ended. It ended on a cliff hanger, but that wasn’t the problem. The problem was that I have to wait for the next book to finish the story. I was so drawn into the story towards the end that I was shocked it was done.

Julian (JD) Wilder, a young man who describes himself as the devil’s spawn. He is now in control of the family business and will get more power over the business after his father is elected President of the United States. Julian is not thrilled that his father is the President Elect, but he is happy to have the control of the family business that he inherited from his mother and grandfather. Now maybe he can find the information he has been searching for to destroy his father.

Gabrielle Duval, a young woman who is trying to move on with her life now that she has the hotel she has always wanted. She’s moving on after a break up with her fiancé who was too physical with her and left bruises. She thought that her life would be simple and boring, until JD walks into her office the night of the Presidential election and gives her a deal that will help her mother but could ruin her life. She isn’t sure that she can go through with his deal, but she would do anything for her mother.

I really liked this story and it drew me in with the suspense, steam, and love story between JD and Gabrielle. I am anxiously awaiting the second book to find out what’s going to happen. While there is a darkness to this story, I don’t see it as being a really dark story. Perhaps the second book will have more darkness, but I can’t wait to read it and find out. I love the cover too.

I whole heartedly recommend this story to anyone who likes a suspenseful story with an alpha male who will do his best to protect the people he loves and right the wrongs that were done to his family. It’s a story of second chances with suspense and secrets to be revealed. I give this story a 4.5-star review and look forward to reading more of the new chapter in Eva Charles’ writing career.

Review of Twisted by Natasha Knight @GiveMeBooksPR and @NatashaKnight13

A story of two people who find light in their lives after one-night changes everything for them.

Gregory Scafoni is hurting and angry after he feels that he has been rejected by Helena Willow. His place in the Scafoni family gives him certain rights, but his older brother Sebastian has changed the rules and the legacy of the Scafoni family. Gregory still wants a woman of his own, and he has set a plan in place to attain her. Little does he know that his life will be changed again, but in so many good ways.

Amelia Willow is one of the Willow girls, she is the sister of Helena. Her life was changed the night of the culling, and she can’t seem to get the images out of her head. Even after she has drawn them so many times. She is a special Willow girl though. Even more special than her sister Helena, and Gregory is beginning to see this.

I enjoyed reading Taken and Torn, the first two books about the Scafoni and Willow families. This one was just as good if not better in my opinion. I loved how Gregory and Amelia drew out the best in each other. Not that they have a fairy tale story, but that their story starts from a legacy that they can’t shake and ends in a life of light and happiness. Amelia draws the good out of Gregory and they fit perfectly together.

I like how the characters grow in this story, even Sebastian and Helena grow more in this story and the siblings are able to find peace after such a hard start to their relationships. The rivalry for the Scafoni’s and the differences in the Willow’s are pushed aside and the siblings find life and happiness as a family.

I give this story a 4.5-star review and recommend it to anyone who likes dark, suspenseful, and stories of finding the light in life out of the darkness.

Review of Dark Legacy: Dark Falls, CO Romantic Thriller Book 3 by Trish McCallan @TrishMcCallan @HiddenGemsBooks

A story of second chances, suspense, and murder. The third book in the Dark Falls line of romantic thrillers. This series is a multi-author collaboration.

Ariel Hamilton, a young woman whose father was framed for multiple murders while she was in college. Ariel lost her college fund, her father, her boyfriend, and her future after her father is arrested and convicted for multiple murders in the small town of Dark Falls, Colorado. He’s accused of being the X Factor Killer. Someone wants her to come back to Dark Falls, fourteen years after she left town.

Rhys Evans, a young man whose life was also changed fourteen years ago. He was headed to the NFL, but after tragedy struck his family, he changes his path for his future. He is now a detective for the Dark Falls Major Crime unit. He lost the love of his life fourteen years ago along with is future in the NFL. Will he find peace now?

This was the first book I’ve read in the Dark Falls, CO series. It was a good story, full of suspense, twists, and a great love story as well. The characters were enjoyable to read, Ariel is a strong woman who is sassy and resourceful. She has been taking care of herself for fourteen years and is able to keep herself safe when she’s being hunted. Rhys is a smart detective who finds himself starting to believe Ariel’s claims that her father was framed. He knows Ariel and is able to keep her focused when she is being questioned by the police. The pages turned quickly, and the story pulled me in from the first page, with the first case.

I give this story a 4.5-star review and recommend it to readers who like thriller, suspense, and crime stories. I hope to read more of this series in the near future.

Review of Consuming Fire by Catherine Ferns @rararesources @metalmamawrites #TuesdayBookBlog

Wow! This was quite the story. A story of death, destruction, and evil that left me wanting so much more.

Liverpool is going through a dangerous heat wave and there are strange incidents happening as well. Detective Inspector Darren Swift is working diligently to find out what is causing the apparent cases of spontaneous combustion, and he will contact his friend Helen, who was a nun until recently.

Dr. Helen Hope was a Calvinist nun until a recent situation had her rethinking her future. She is now working as a Lecturer at the University and enjoys research on religious matter. After DI Swift calls her for help on his new case, she finds herself immersed in another case where her religious knowledge and research lead to the unthinkable and bizarre.

Helen and DI Swift were first introduced to each other in Catherine Fearns first book Reprobation. DI Swift worked with Helen in that case as well. These two have a tendency to work on their own to solve a case as well as with each other. They both have a mindset of wanting to find the truth by and needing to find the truth. They work well together, and they have become close friends.

Consuming Fire is Catherine Fearns’ second published book and it’s just as good as her first. It is very well written, and it pulled me in from the very beginning of the book and kept my attention throughout the entire story. I will say that I was crushed at the end. I really need more of this story and the conclusion. I loved how she incorporated Ars Adramelechum throughout the story.

I give this story a 5-star review and highly recommend it to anyone who likes police procedural, suspense and the thrill of figuring out who the criminal is, having the pieces of the puzzle fall into place to help the characters find their answers and close a case. In my opinion, this was another great story by Catherine Fearns and I can’t wait to read more.

Review of Se7en: A Single Dad Mafia Romance by Bry Ann @AuthorBryAnn

A story of love, loss, and the impact one person can have on so many lives. A story of how a person can overcome the darkness of their past and grow to be a good person and share their light with those around them. Showing that it’s a choice to see the light out of the darkness.

Seven, a man who has demons, but is so much more than what you expect. He’s a crazy Mafia Capo, but he is also a loving, caring, kind man who will always be a hero to his daughter and Isla. A broken man that lives in the dark of his past. He has a soft side, but one little girl and one woman show him there is light to be found in his life.

Isla, a pediatrician who gets pulled into Seven’s life because he wanted a normal life for his daughter Nia. She claims to be an emotional woman, which she is, but she too, is so much more than what you expect. She’s strong, caring, and determined. She will go to the ends of the earth to protect children and those that she cares about.

Nia, a little girl who has seen too much for her young age. She’s reserved, quiet, and yet, she has so much love to share. She is the one who brings Seven and Isla together and she is the one person that they will protect at all costs.

I felt all of the emotions that the characters in this story felt while reading it. The pain the characters were going through, the sadness, the joy, the love, I felt it all. I loved it and wanted so much more.

The characters in these books, this is a standalone story from Roses & Thorns Series, evolve and grow so much in each book. Each one has grown in each story I’ve read, and I love all of the characters. The women are strong, they’re fighters, and they’re soft where they need to be. They fight for what they believe in as well as for the men they love, and the women who have come into their family. The men are ruthless, tough, and yet when it comes to their family, they are so different from what they show the outside world.

I give this story a 5-star review and so look forward to the next book by Bry Ann. I loved the ending of this story, it was perfect in every way.

Review of Parrish: A Satans Knights MC Novel, by Janine Infante Bosco @JanineBosco

Wow, what a ride! I’ve read a few of the Satans Knights books and I fell in love with Parrish from reading those books. I haven’t read the first book in the series yet, but meeting Jack “Bulldog” Parrish in Loner – Nomad Series Novel, Riding the Edge, and The Devil Don’t Sleep, I fell in love with him and his passion for the men and women he considered family. He may be fighting with his maker, but the men and women of the Satans Knights will always have his back and be there for him.

Parrish has decided to quit fighting his mind and has surrendered to keep his family safe and out of trouble. However, before he can turn himself in, there is an accident and his future is re-written, once again. I was worried at the end of the story that there were going to be questions left unanswered about Blackie, but it was covered in the Epilogue. I look forward to reading Blackout next.

I loved this story. It’s a story of love and redemption. It’s a second chance at life and finding what’s important in one’s life. It’s full of turmoil, suspense, and heartache. A story of a man who fights the darkness daily and yet he learns that he can win the battle with help from those around him and the family loves him. I loved the Love Letter to Jack Parrish at the end of the book, too. It was a great addition to the book. I give this story a 5-star review and highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys MC stories, stories of love, suspense, and men who fight for their family of choice.

Review of Axel: A Romantic Suspense Novel by Bry Ann @AuthorBryAnn

Axel, a young man who has to learn how to live his life on his own after a terrible, life altering incident happens in his life. After he reacts to an incident that he walks up to his life will change forever. Is he meant to be alone for his entire life, or will he find that someone who will heal his heart and soul?

Aly, a young woman who has to leave her home to find herself and a life that will heal her. After growing up in a small town she decides to leave for the big city of Seattle because it’s not too far away from home, but it’s far enough that she will be on her own and hopefully find her true self.

I am not sure how Bry Ann comes up with her stories, where they come from, or how she is able to write such a wonderful story about such a painful, emotional, and heart-wrenching subject, but she does such a great job with them.

This story tore my heart out of my chest, the same way that most of Bry Ann’s books have done to me, but it was put back by the end of the book. I loved how these two characters grew throughout this book and were able to find each other and a happy life.

I have now read all of Bry Ann’s books that I can get my hands on and I have to say that she has quickly become a favorite author of mine. I give this story a 5-star review and heartily recommend that you read it and all of Bry Ann’s books. Just be warned that they are emotional, angsty, and heart-wrenching even though they do have a happy ending. Bry Ann’s dedication in this book even had me in tears.
