She’s broken, destroyed, and all alone now. Her brother did not come home from his last deployment. Now she’s lashing out at the people that have always been family by choice because she blames them for her brother not coming home and they all have their lives ahead of them.
They were engaged, they grew up together, and meant everything to each other, but when Chloe’s big brother didn’t come home from his last mission, his final mission, she broke and she blamed all of his friends, including his best friend and her fiancé, Ian.
Ian wouldn’t give up on Chloe, no matter what. He knew that they were meant to be together, he just had to figure out how to get Chloe through the devastation she’s going through. When things start to get back on track, more devastating news hits them and then trouble comes calling. The Birch Police and Fire and Rescue are a close-knit group and have each other’s backs, so even if Ian was not there to help Chloe, he knew that someone would. I have really been enjoying these books that are in small town Maine. The characters are all great, the men have protected and served in multiple capacities from their early adult lives, and they continue to serve and protect their town and their community. The women are strong, independent, and able to hole their own against their men. The men are protective and caring. They will do whatever they can for their women and their family, whether they are blood or chosen family. I love the series and I am hoping for more of this small town. I give this book a 5-star review.
