Promise me you’ll love again. I hear the last words my wife said to me every day.
A promise I have never and will never fulfill.
My heart is stone. Impenetrable. I don’t care. I spent twenty years in prison for a crime I didn’t commit. The punishment is what I deserved. For not being there for her. I’m on one mission now. And it isn’t to find love like I promised.
It’s to kill the man that killed my wife.
It’s near the anniversary of her death now and I’m in the woods, camping.
Hunting. Keeping my skills sharp. And that’s when I happen upon her. She’s stumbling naked in the forest, cut, bruised, and half dead. I should give her to the authorities, but something about her makes the stone of my heart crumble a bit. But years ago, I made a promise I couldn’t keep.
And this girl is better off without me. I’m tarnished. No matter what, no matter how tempted, no matter how much I crave her touch, I cannot give in. Promises are made to me broken. But can I live with broken promises? The more I convince myself that I can, the more whiskey says I can’t.

Kelli writes hot and steamy romances with delicious alpha males who will not stop until they get the women they crave exactly where they want them. Kelli’s heroes are tough as nails, hot as sin, and underneath the rough exterior is a heart of gold begging to be unleashed. If you think you can tame them, you’re probably right, but it won’t be an easy journey.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 out of 5

Wow! This story definitely had a plot twist to it that I did not see coming! I loved it.

The Underground Kings are brothers and family by choice. They may get irritated with each other and want to be left alone at times, but they are loyal to each other and love each other unconditionally, the way a family should. However, these men have been accused of crimes they did not commit, and they have been treated as criminals because of it. They all have a rough past and want retribution for the time they have done because of someone else. Owen accepted his punishment and was ready for more, but he was saved by Jaxon when he walked out of prison. He then became a part of a family that would have his back at all times, few questions asked.

She found her way out of a bad life after she finished high school and was making a good life for herself until one day when she ended up being a captive to a monster. She doesn’t even know how long she has been captive, but one thing is for sure, she can’t let this monster win. She has to fight back and get away. Jolie had a path in life that took her from the dead-end family that she was unlucky to be born into. She wanted to go to college and become an accountant. She was on the right path until she wasn’t any longer because of one monster’s path.

This story is tragic, dark, twisted, action packed, suspenseful and such a great read. I have loved the Underground Kings all along the way, but I think Owen’s story may be my favorite so far. I think I may have said that after each story, but Owen and Jolie’s story broke me. Owen has always been such a stoic character and reading his story and seeing a whole other side of him, I love him even more now. Jolie is a strong woman in so many ways. She fought so hard and is such a great character. She’s perfect for Owen and they really complete each other and make each other stronger. I can’t wait for Heaven’s story. I love this series and cannot get enough of these characters. The women are strong, funny and great for their partners. I give this story a 5-star review and highly recommend it and I look forward to more.
