Two families that own professional sports teams, their stadiums are right across the street from each other. One is a football team, and the other is a hockey team. Both families have owned these teams for generations, now one family has to sell their team to survive.

The Kingston family has owned the football team for generations, and they have done a great job with the team as well as the money aspect of the team. They are winning and staying on top. Now that Max is running the empire, he wants to make some changes and get out of his father’s shadow of running the team and the empire. When he is approached about buying the hockey team, he sees his chance.

Daphne Brenner grew up in the hockey rink. Her grandfather was the owner of the team when she was a little girl and her mother had hoped to take over when the time was right, but tragedy struck and left Daphne to be raised by her father. It was a bad childhood, but it was a loving one either. Daphne didn’t aspire to take over the team that her father is running now, but she did aspire to take over the fund raising and the charity for the Rockets and when her father drops a bomb on her, her future looks bleak at best. She wonders if she ever really knew her father at all.

I really loved this story of Max and Daphne. They are both great characters that have such big hearts, but they don’t stop to think of themselves very often. They have an intense chemistry that shocks them both. I loved Daphne’s confidence and sassiness. I love the part where she puts Becket in his place. She knocks him down a few notches and makes him grovel for forgiveness. It was a great story and is full of great characters. I am looking forward to more from Bella Matthews and the Kingston family. I give this book a 4-star review.

Gianni Marino pulled some stupid stunts as a kid and young man; he and his twin would switch off with girls and he never thought anything of it. It was expected after the first time. The only girls they never switched with was Bridget, Dante’s girl and Cara, Gianni’s girl. However, when Gianni began to get too close to Cara he would always pull back. For some reason the HEA seemed to scare him.

Cara has given Gianni too many passes and now that they are grown and in their 40’s, she’s no longer opened to giving him chances. So, when she starts seeing Umberto and Gianni warns her away from him, she digs her heals in deeper. She carries on the relationship for months, but when Umberto begins to feel threatened, he turns on her and she finds herself on an auction block being bought by a man that bids the highest. Little does she know that her whole life is going to be changed forever.

I really like the Mafia Wars books, but the back and forth between Gianni and Cara got to be a bit too much in this book. I understand her reluctance to trust and accept Gianni’s word that he has changed and is committing himself to only her, but she pushed a lot about their past, while Gianni kept asking her to please put the past behind them and trust that he was a different man, she kept seeing him as the arrogant, stupid young man that she knew and not the grown, dangerous, and committed man in front of her. I liked their story and once it got past the part where she kept questioning his every move, it was good. Gianni is a dangerous, dark, and deadly man that protects those he loves fiercely, and Cara is at the top of his list for protecting. It was a good story and I look forward to Crazed. I give this book a 4-star review.

Alexius is the first born of the Del Rossa family and slated to take over for his father soon. He’s dark, deadly, ruthless, and unforgiving. His father wants him to marry to make his position as the head of the family and the Dark Sovereign stronger, but Alexius doesn’t feel he needs any more strength than his name and reputation. So, he decides to find a wife that is disposable, however what he finds is so much more.

Leandra is a woman that is barely living. Her home life as a child was dismal and her adult life is a struggle. Now that she’s free of her mother’s torment, she wants to find a way out of her current life, but with no options she’s stuck. Until a ruthless man walks into the diner she works and hands her a black envelope with a proposition. Leandra is not a trusting woman and when she reads the letter inside the envelope she declines his offer, but Alexius won’t take no for an answer.

This story is brutal, dark, and tragic. It’s also a story of a woman that may be able to find her way out of the darkness that she’s lived her whole life, but she will have to find a way to trust the man that has given her the opportunity. Leandra and Alexius are an explosive couple but when they begin to find their footing with each other their relationship could be explosive in other ways. Leandra may be a “stray”, but she doesn’t take any of Alexius’ harshness. She may be intimidated by him, but she won’t cower to him. I really liked this story, and the characters were great. I look forward to more of the Dark Sovereign books to come and Nicoli’s story. These brothers are close and have each other’s backs, but there is a threat, and no one knows where it’s coming from. It could put the whole family in danger. I give this book a 5-star review.

High school can be such a tough time, but what’s worse is when the kids that were so high and mighty, bullies, tough guys, or plain old b!tches never grow up and feel as though they are still the top of the food chain after high school.

The Strays are the outcasts, weird kids, the kids that no one wants to take the time to understand or get to know. We’ve all had them at our schools. When the Strays finally strike back the group of four that made their high school years miserable, one of them in particular will find out who her real friends are.

Ray is an entitled girl that lives behind a mask. She pretends to be alright when inside her life and her mind are fracturing. Not knowing who her high school friends truly are or were, she believes that she is untouchable and indestructible, but one night at a Halloween party she finds something that can help her and change how her future is headed. All because the kids she bullied and made outcasts wants revenge on her and her crew.

I liked this book. The characters are interesting, and relatable. The story was relatable, angsty and a bit dark. I’m sure that we’ve all had some experience with the high school “cool” kids showing the others how high school was going to be for them. Not everyone had a bully, but I’m sure to an extend that most did, so this book is relatable in that sense. It was a quick read, but I wouldn’t say it was an easy read. There are some tragic and dark scenes that made me cringe and tear up, but I still enjoyed it. I felt bad for Ray and the Strays, but in the end the main bullies got their comeuppance. I give this book a 5-star review. I find that Erin Trejo can write pretty much any trope and I will enjoy reading it. She’s a master wordsmith.
