My jaw was clenched tight as I got out of bed and got dressed. I knew I was on edge when I left my room, but I didnโt know exactly how bad it was until I walked into the kitchen and found a gallon of milk sitting on the counter. It was already sweating and half-warm, and the sight of it threw me into a rage.
โWho the hell left this out?โ
Goose glanced over his shoulder with a smirk. โThatโd be me. Iโll get it in a sec.โ
โDonโt bother.โ I picked it up and tossed it in the trash. โItโs garbage now.โ
โWoah,โ Goose gasped. โThat was still good.โ
โYeah, if you like drinking curdled milk.โ I started pouring myself some coffee as I grumbled, โNext time, put the damn thing back in the fridge.โ
He muttered something under his breath, which only twisted the screw in deeper. My mood was far from improving when Memphis strolled into the kitchen. As he opened the pantry door, he glanced over his shoulder and asked, โYou hear about the flat on the SUV?โ
That had my entire throat turning into a knot. I turned to face him as I snarled, โWhat flat?โ
โThe back left,โ he answered like it was no big deal. โLooked low yesterday, but itโs damn near dead now.โ
โAnd no one thought to fix it?โ I snapped. โNo one thought, โHey, maybe we shouldnโt let the only reliable set of wheels we got sit on its ass in the lotโ?โ
โI was gonnaโฆโ
โDonโt say you were gonna take care of it,โ I cut him off. โYou either did, or you didnโt, and clearly, you didnโt.โ
I could feel the whole room shift. The boys sitting at the kitchen table looked down at their food, doing their best to avoid eye contact, and those who were standing by the door made their way out. No one wanted to poke the bear, not when I was already halfway to losing it.
But Goose was never one to tread lightly.
He ignored all the red flags and turned to face me with a smirk, โSo, Iโm guessing your night out with your new lady friend didnโt go so great, huh?โ
I glared daggers at him, but he didnโt flinch.
He just sat there with that shit-eating grin and added, โAh, damn. It went that bad.โ
And just like that, it hit me like a punch to the gut.
I wasnโt pissed about the noise or the stupid milk.
I wasnโt even all that pissed about the damn tire. Not really.
It was her.
It was the way sheโd looked at me last night when she told me she couldnโt do this. Iโd thought things were going fine. Better than fine. I thought they were great. But somewhere between the ball field and the ride home, Iโd felt her pull back.
It was subtle, but it was there.
I couldnโt figure out why it had happened.
Regardless, it had nothing to do with the boys, and it wasnโt fair to take it out on them. I raked a hand down my face, and I felt the fight drain right out of me. โDamn.โ

New York Times and USA Today Best Seller L. Wilder brings a new story for readers who like their alpha men loyal, their stakes high, and their love worth fighting for.
Being President of Satanโs Fury was more than a title.
It was my purpose.
My legacy.
It was built with loyalty, trust, and respect.
And in the process, weโd earned quite a reputation.
It was up to me to keep it.
I didnโt have time for distractions, especially one like Tabitha Volkov.
She was beautiful with haunted eyes and a past wrapped in secrets.
I had no business getting tied up with her.
Timing and circumstance pulled us in different directions.
But that didnโt stop me from wanting her.
She was convinced her chance for love had come and gone.
I was determined to prove her wrong.
