This book is dark, gritty, and full of angst, betrayal, and a man set on revenge. I loved it!
Rush has survived so much, and he’s grown to be a dark, revengeful demon set on destroying those that destroyed his family and his life. He’s a fighter and a survivor, and he is ready to put his plan into motion to get his revenge. The only problem is that when he has his first in person meet with Aileen Scott, he isn’t prepared for the way his body, mind and heart react to their first connection.
Aileen Scott is a young woman that has been protected all her life and treated as a princess. Yes, her father and uncles taught the kids how to protect themselves and be aware of any danger lurking, but she wasn’t ever sure she would need to worry about it. She may have been treated like a little princess all her life, but she is not a woman to let any man or woman walk all over her. She has sharp tongue and a backbone that shows when she needs it.
This story is a bit of a retelling of Beauty and the Beast and Hades and Persephone, but the real villain or danger is closer than either of these two know. Rush believes that the betrayal he feels comes from someone that saved him, raised him, and he trusted fully. Now he’s ready to put his revenge into motion and has taken the princess to hold in his castle. I love V.F. Mason’s stories. They are always full of action, danger, angst, and wonderful characters. The book drew me in from the very beginning and it was hard to put it down. There was so much to take in and soak up. I am ready for the second book in the duet. I give this book a 5-star review and am excited for more books and stories from V. F. Mason.

My Review of Heart of the Villain: Beauty and the Villain Duet Book 2 by V.F. Mason
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 5 out of 5
Aileen has escaped one beast to be thrown into another’s grasp. She had to tempt the beast and then make her move, but she escaped. Now she’s fighting against Mother Nature and the unknown.
Rush is worried, not only is he injured by his beauty, but he’s afraid she will find herself on the wrong side of the island and in danger by a man that he has been angry with for years. They have an agreement that if either of them crosses the line between their property it could mean death. Will Rafael really hurt Aileen, or does he have ulterior motives for taking her back to his castle?
A great continuation and conclusion to a great story. There were a lot of unknowns going into book 2, but once again, the story sucked me in and held on to me through the book. This conclusion to the Beauty and the Villain Duet had twists and just as much danger, action, and suspense as the first book. I loved the quotes at the beginning of the chapters as much as the story. I am always looking for books by VF Mason that I haven’t read because they are so intense and always a great read. I give this second book in the duet a 5-star review and will be watching for more, hopefully Raphael’s story.
